Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance Zambia
Southern African Alcohol Policy Alliance- Zambia (SAAPA Zambia), is a consortium of 14 CSOs advocating for public health policies, effective enforcement of existing liquor laws and promotion of the World Health Organisation evidence based harm reduction strategies to reduce and prevent alcohol harmful consumption and its related harms in the Nation. SDG 5.2: Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation. There is a strong relationship between alcohol and domestic abuse, intimate partner violence and sexual assault.
Alcohol is seldom the sole explanation for violence, but it is often the triggering factor. Alcohol use creates a context for violent acts. It is often used as excuse for otherwise socially unacceptable behavior. Alcohol marketing perpetuates harmful norms. We are raising awareness on alcohol harms, advocating effective enforcement of alcohol laws. So our contribution to reduce violence is from an alcohol perspective.
